With the Eagles representing Pennsylvania in this year’s Super Bowl, it’s a good time to showcase some of the best spots for wings in the commonwealth.

Football and chicken wings are practically synonymous. Chicken wings are especially synonymous with football’s biggest game, the Super Bowl. If you’re at a bar watching the big game, you probably have at least one basket of wings on the table. If you’re at a Super Bowl party, someone is probably walking through the door with a tray full of wings and at least two sauce options, hot and mild.

Super Bowl Sunday is just over one week away, on Feb. 12. And with the Philadelphia Eagles repping Pennsylvania this year, restaurants and bars in the eastern part of the state are in overdrive gearing up to give football lovers — as well as those who simply watch the game for the camaraderie, halftime show, and commercials — their favorite messy snack. But even though Pennsylvania’s interest in Super Bowl 57 is very much “a Philly thing,” as they say in the 215, restaurants statewide are ready to bring the wings next Sunday.

Here are a handful of establishments in the commonwealth whose wing game is recognized as being particularly strong.

Windsor Inn

Plenty of places boast they have “the world’s best wings,” but Windsor Inn in Jermyn doesn’t go that far. They boast the “world’s 2nd best chicken wings.” They also claim to be the first restaurant outside of New York to serve Buffalo wings. They now offer traditional wings and boneless wings with 13 different sauces. One Facebook reviewer raves “I’ve never had wings so perfect in my life!”

The Coney in Indiana is named after the original Coney Island, the one on the west coast of Ireland. Opened in 1933, it’s changed locations over the years as it has grown, and the pub now has a restaurant, a game room, a dance area, and private event room. The Coney also claims to have “the best wings in PA.”

Their Coney’s Famous Jumbo Whole Wings are a house favorite, and they have 13 sauces to slather their wings in. According to a Tripadvisor review, the place is “always great” and as for the wings, “they always prepare them perfectly.”

Alliger’s House of Wings

When ordering your wings to go, recommends Alliger’s House of Wings in Sayre, “If you want your wings extra crispy, consider getting them plain with the sauce on the side.” Alliger’s has almost 30 sauces you can choose from to get on the side of your wings. If you choose to cook your own wings, you can pick just the sauce to go, and they sell their nine most popular chicken wing sauces online

Reviews on Facebook mostly rave about the wings. The “wings are awesome here and their flavors are always spot on” says one reviewer and another simply says “amazing wings and amazing food!”

Odis 12

If you’re looking for a large variety of sauces to choose from, Odis 12 Sports Bar & Grille in Erie is the place to go. They have over 150 wing flavors, and their wings have received numerous accolades, including winning Erie’s Best Chicken Wing Cook-off 10 times and Erie’s Choice For Best Chicken Wings nine years in a row. Yelp reviewers say it’s “justifiably known for its wings and beer selection” and they have the “best wings in Erie with a great selection to choose from.”

In Philadelphia’s Port Richmond section, Byrne’s Tavern is one of the best in the city for classic pressure-fried Buffalo wings. They’re famous for wings that they boast are “cooked to perfection with work-ethic pride.” The Infatuation describes their one and only wing sauce as having “a nice spicy kick to it, but it’s not so overpowering that you’ll think you’re on the latest episode of Hot Ones.” Take note, Birds fans: Super Bowl Byrne’s will close the dining room Super Bowl Sunday to handle the to-go orders of wings, pizzas, and cold sandwiches only.

Kelly’s Pub & Eatery

If you’re looking for the “best hot wings in Northeast PA,” Kelly’s Pub & Eatery in Scranton says it’s the place to get them. Their award winning wings come with a choice of 12 sauces. The locals who frequent Kelly’s have plenty of positive things to say about the pub on Facebook, such as they have “the Best Wings and friendly staff and bartenders,” are the “best place for wings in NEPA,” and “the owners treat you like family.”
