Chris Deluzio Warns How GOP Medicaid Cuts Will Harm Rural PA

Congressman Chris Deluzio (D-Allegheny) warns that the Republican Party’s Medicaid cuts will harm rural Pennsylvania and force hospitals, nursing homes, and senior centers to close in order to pay for President Donald Trump’s tax cuts.

US House Republicans passed a budget bill on Thursday that cuts Medicaid by $698 billion, with all of Pennsylvania’s nine congressional republicans voting in favor of the bill.

Medicaid provides 2 million Pennsylvania adults and 1.4 million children with health insurance, and it covers 34% of all births in the state. It also helps 400,000 seniors cover nursing home or home care costs.

AFSCME Member Slams Scott Perry for Supporting Medicaid Cuts

Sue Bosco, an employee at the Pennsylvania Department of Health, warned that the US House Republicans’ Medicare cuts will devastate working families in order to pay for tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.

Bosco joined union members and other protesters outside of Congressman Scott Perry’s office in Harrisburg on Monday to raise awareness that the Republican budget would cut Medicaid by $615 billion and make President Donald Trump’s 2017 tax cuts for the ultra wealthy permanent.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, there are over 180,000 constituents in Perry’s district alone that rely on Medicaid for healthcare coverage. Across the commonwealth, there are over 3 million Pennsylvanians that receive health care coverage through the program.

Brendan Boyle: Millions of Americans Will Lose Health Care to Pay for Tax Cut for the Rich

Congressman Brendan Boyle (D-Philadelphia) called out US House Republicans for putting the health care of more than 13 million Americans at risk in order to pay for tax cuts for the ultra rich during a Ways and Means Committee meeting late on Tuesday.

US House Republicans introduced a budget bill that cuts Medicaid by $715 billion, and according to a report by the Congressional Budget Office, at least 8.6 million Americans will lose their health care because of cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

An additional 5.1 million Americans are at risk of losing their health care if Republicans refuse to extend tax credits to make the ACA more affordable.

Senator Ruben Gallego: Suspending Habeas Corpus would be a black eye for US

While visiting Bucks County this past weekend, US Sen. Ruben Gallego said it would be a black eye on the country if President Donald Trump tries to suspend habeas corpus and due process for all Americans.

Stephen Miller, a top White House advisor to Trump, suggested that Trump is actively looking at suspending habeas corpus, even though he does not have the power to do so.

Congress is the only branch of government that has the power to suspend habeas corpus, which grants individuals the right to due process and to present their defense before a judge.
