Find the best pumpkin patches in Armstrong County, complete with activities and prices, and other things to know.

Nestled in the heart of Armstrong County, northeast of Pittsburgh, are some of the most delightful pumpkin patches in the state. These slices of countryside are the perfect destinations for families, couples, and individuals seeking a day out surrounded by the charm of rural life in Western Pa.

Here are three of the best pumpkin patches to check out:

Fair Haven Farms – Grove City

Located in the quaint borough of Grove City, Fair Haven Farms is a beloved destination for locals. This charming farm is known for its vast pumpkin fields, which seem to stretch to the horizon. The farm is a favorite among families, especially those with young children, but people of all ages enjoy the rustic charm and annual pumpkin picking.

The 2023 Fair Haven Farms Fall Festival runs every Friday, Saturday, Sunday until Oct. 29, plus Columbus Day (Oct. 9), so you have plenty of time to soak up the festive autumn vibes.

Admission to the festival costs $15 per person (for ages three and above) and includes a hayride to the pumpkin patch as well as a corn maze, kid zone, ninja course, petting zoo, and so much more. There are also weekly specials and multiple exciting events throughout the season, so be sure to follow the farm’s Facebook page to get the most up-to-date information.

Harvest Valley Farms – Gibsonia

Harvest Valley Farms is another gem in Armstrong County. The fourth-generation family farm has been growing fresh produce in Gibsonia for more than 70 years, and it has remained steadfast in its commitment to sustainable practices.

Although it’s renowned for its fresh and fabulous produce (including PA Simply Sweet Onions, which are the only trademarked vegetable crop in Pennsylvania) and baked goods, the farm is also a popular spot for pumpkin picking during its annual Fall Festival. Additional activities include hayrides, corn mazes, caramel apples, craft beer, live music, and a petting zoo.

The annual festival typically runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first four weekends in October.

Renshaw Farms – Freeport

Renshaw Farms is a long-standing favorite among locals and out-of-towners alike. This year, the Freeport farm is hosting its 15th annual Pumpkin Festival on Sept. 23-24, 29-30, as well as every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in October. The family-friendly event features a variety of activities, including hayrides, corn mazes, a petting zoo, and a variety of games and rides.

Admission is $8 per person (although kiddos three and under are free). There are also a few other activities that are available for an additional fee, such as the pumpkin cannon and pumpkin slingshot.

The famous Great Pumpkin Weigh Off — the pinnacle of the festival — will be held Oct. 1. This event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Giant Pumpkin Growers Association, and it will feature giant pumpkins, squash, and gourds from all over the state.

This year, Renshaw Farms is also partnering with the Spookely the Square Pumpkin program to raise awareness about bullying prevention. Spookely is a square pumpkin who is bullied by the other pumpkins, but he learns to embrace his differences and becomes a hero.

Attending the event will not only support a great cause, but it will also support a longstanding local business.
