The progressive-leaning Working Families Party endorsed Kamala Harris’ campaign for president on Thursday, promising to knock over 2 million doors in key swing states.

The Working Families Party, a progressive-leaning third party, announced on Thursday that they endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign against Donald Trump. They are also planning to knock on over 2 million doors for Harris in key swing states across the country.

Harris became the Democrats’ top candidate to take on Trump after President Joe Biden announced last Sunday that he would not seek a second term in office. She quickly gained the support from Democrats across Pennsylvania, and the country, after Biden’s announcement.

The Vice President received over 95% of the vote from Working Families Party members and delegates.

“I’m proud to support Kamala Harris for President. A second term in office for Donald Trump would do serious harm to the Philadelphia communities I represent,” said Kendra Brooks, Philadelphia City Councilmember with the Working Families Party.

“We can’t afford to take any voter for granted. I’m looking forward to organizing the communities who elected me and Councilmember Nic O’Rourke to the Philadelphia City Council last year, voters who Democrats must turn out to win in November.”

The Working Families Party operates outside of the traditional two party system by running their own progressive candidates for local offices, but they also endorse Democrats in primary and general elections.

In 2020, the Working Families Party played a part in driving voter turnout in Philadelphia and other heavily Democratic areas for the Biden-Harris campaign, and they expanded those operations in the 2022 and 2023 elections.

“Our coalition was critical to defeating Trump in 2020. We’re ready to do it again in 2024,” said Maurice Mitchell, National Director of the Working Families Party.

“This election is bigger than any one person. It’s about the kind of country we want to be and whether we will let the rights and freedoms our ancestors spent generations fighting for—the right to participate equally in our democracy, to organize our workplaces, and to control our own bodies—be taken away from us. Over the next four months, we’ll be mobilizing voters in key states to elect Kamala Harris and build our ranks of WFP champions up and down the ballot.”
