State Democratic lawmakers and mental health advocates gathered in Harrisburg on Thursday to express dismay at Senate Republicans’ proposed budget, which seeks to eliminate $100 million in recurring funding for school-based mental health and instead shift the same amount of money intended for adult mental health services to fund the school-based care.
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) introduced legislation on Thursday that would allow striking workers to qualify for federal food assistance benefits while walking the picket line. This pro-worker legislation—the Food Secure Strikers Act of 2023—is the first ever of its kind to be proposed by a member of Congress.
“Today, algorithms and automated decision systems have vast implications for employment decisions, worker rights, and safety in the workplace. Without oversight and safeguards, these “robot bosses” increase the risks of discrimination, unfair disciplinary actions, and dangerous working conditions,” a summary of the No Robot Bosses Act stated.

“We appreciate the state providing us this funding. The need is there. The need is great, and a lot of people are going to be the recipients of this money,” said Dauphin County Commissioner Mike Pries in an interview on the program.

Continuing their attacks against the LGBT community, Republicans in the US House of Representatives voted to strip funding for three LGBTQ community centers during an Appropriations Committee meeting on Tuesday.
