The best wings in Erie may be the best wings in the USA.
Are wings better in Erie, or are Buffalo wings still king? As an Erie native, I can attest to what my taste buds tell me: Erie has the best wings, hands down. (Come at me, Buffalo!)

Erie has long been a destination for tourists, but it should also be a destination for people who love great wings. But where can you find the best wings in Erie? In a recent poll, local foodies have narrowed down to three standout spots. These places are renowned for their excellence in preparing some top-tier wings. There’s a lot to explore in Erie’s wing kingdom, which has various flavors and cooking styles — including a chicken wing Bloody Mary. Check out our readers’ top three choices for the best wings in Erie below!
3. Avonia Tavern
Avonia Tavern is a favorite among locals — and traveling fishermen — who appreciate high-quality, crispy chicken wings. Known for their broad range of flavors, including their truly unique Bleu Hot blend (my personal favorite), Avonia’s wing menu caters to people who love classic tastes and also those eager to experiment. The variety is impressive, with options that span the spectrum from tangy to dry rubbed to “bangin” spicy.
What sets Avonia Tavern apart is the crisp. Each wing is baked with the flavor on after it’s fried to ensure a nice crispy skin and tender meat. Plus, this process allows the flavor to be absorbed. Their wings are also notably generous in size, ensuring that diners get their fill without feeling short-changed.
Regulars often rave about the consistency of Avonia Tavern’s wings. You can expect the same quality with each order. This reliability has earned Fairview’s favorite tavern a loyal following and high praise within Erie’s foodie community.
If you’re planning a visit, it might be worth noting that Avonia Tavern’s wings are best enjoyed with a cold beverage (or as a garnish on a cold cocktail), available from their well-stocked keg cooler. Local beers and local wings go together like fish and chips — which is also on the menu here.
2. Haggerty’s
Haggerty’s is one of my favorite places in Erie. It’s half hole in the wall half gathering of the best humans. It’s a smoking bar (be warned) that somehow boasts some pretty tasty items. That includes their wings. Personally, I would choose Haggerty’s as my number one wing spot in Erie, but I didn’t get to vote (since I’m writing the article). Also, I’ve been living outside of Erie for the past 16 years, so what do I know…
This is the place if you’re looking for a specialty chicken wing lineup for an impressively low price. Haggerty’s has a selection of house-made flavors that keeps the crowds coming back. Like their Hagg’s Special, a dry-rubbed hot ranch concoction with mysterious spices that give it that extra zing reminiscent of a hot ranch with secret spices for that added kick.
What makes Haggerty’s wings stand out is not just the flavor but also the value. On Monday wing nights, patrons can enjoy wings for just 45 cents each, which is a deal hard to resist. They also offer a boneless option that does not compromise on quality, and that many describe as tender and juicy with a crispy coating.
Don’t forget, though, that it’s a cash-only dive, so you might need to hit up the ATM in case you need some cash.
1. Odis 12
The popular sports bar, Odis 12 is your number-one pick for the best wings in Erie! And this is no surprise. This spot has swept more Erie’s Choice and Best of Erie gold medals for wings than anyone else.
The menu is extensive, serving up traditional flavors and unique blends for those who seek out more adventurous tastes. From mild options like their buttery garlic to the incredibly hot “Suicidal” wings, there’s something for every palate.
A standout feature of Odis 12 is their frequent wing specials — which we love! These deals not only make it affordable to try multiple flavors but also offer an opportunity to discover new favorites. Their wings are celebrated for their meaty texture and crispy exterior, making each bite a mix of crunch and tenderness.
