Avonia Tavern is a favorite among locals — and traveling fishermen — who appreciate high-quality, crispy chicken wings. Known for their broad range of flavors, including their truly unique Bleu Hot blend (my personal favorite), Avonia’s wing menu caters to people who love classic tastes and also those eager to experiment. The variety is impressive, with options that span the spectrum from tangy to dry rubbed to “bangin” spicy.

What sets Avonia Tavern apart is the crisp. Each wing is baked with the flavor on after it’s fried to ensure a nice crispy skin and tender meat. Plus, this process allows the flavor to be absorbed. Their wings are also notably generous in size, ensuring that diners get their fill without feeling short-changed.

Regulars often rave about the consistency of Avonia Tavern’s wings. You can expect the same quality with each order. This reliability has earned Fairview’s favorite tavern a loyal following and high praise within Erie’s foodie community.

Haggerty’s is one of my favorite places in Erie. It’s half hole in the wall half gathering of the best humans. It’s a smoking bar (be warned) that somehow boasts some pretty tasty items. That includes their wings. Personally, I would choose Haggerty’s as my number one wing spot in Erie, but I didn’t get to vote (since I’m writing the article). Also, I’ve been living outside of Erie for the past 16 years, so what do I know…

This is the place if you’re looking for a specialty chicken wing lineup for an impressively low price. Haggerty’s has a selection of house-made flavors that keeps the crowds coming back. Like their Hagg’s Special, a dry-rubbed hot ranch concoction with mysterious spices that give it that extra zing reminiscent of a hot ranch with secret spices for that added kick.

What makes Haggerty’s wings stand out is not just the flavor but also the value. On Monday wing nights, patrons can enjoy wings for just 45 cents each, which is a deal hard to resist. They also offer a boneless option that does not compromise on quality, and that many describe as tender and juicy with a crispy coating.

Don’t forget, though, that it’s a cash-only dive, so you might need to hit up the ATM in case you need some cash.

The popular sports bar, Odis 12 is your number-one pick for the best wings in Erie! And this is no surprise. This spot has swept more Erie’s Choice and Best of Erie gold medals for wings than anyone else.
