Wawa invites local people to come out bright and early Friday, Oct. 2, to celebrate the opening of its second Franklin County store.
The grand opening of the Greencastle Wawa kicks off at 7:55 a.m. with General Manager Seth Baur leading the countdown to the doors opening at 8.
The first 100 people through the door will get a free T-shirt commemorating Wawa’s “Grand Opening Tour of the U.S.A.,” which includes 100 new stores in 14 states in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Midwest in 2026.
Everybody can get free coffee. The free any-size coffee promo goes through Sunday, Oct. 4.
Customers are also invited to be part of the official ribbon-cutting at 8:30 a.m. and ceremony to celebrate the store’s team and the impact on the community. Local officials are expected to join Wawa executives at the microphone.
Wawa will also host its grand opening tradition, “Hoagies for Heroes.” Two teams of local first responders will compete to make as many hoagies as possible following Wawa standards.
Greencastle store part of big Wawa expansion
The store at 797 Buchanan Trail East will be Wawa’s 67th grand opening this year, according to a news release. The store is also part of the expansion into Central Pennsylvania that the company announced in 2022.
Wawa spends about $7.5 million on each new store. Each location employs about 35 people.
The approximately 6,000-square-foot Greencastle store and fueling station sits on a 1.75-acre lot on the northwest corner of Buchanan Trail East (Pa. 16) and Grindstone Hill Road. It is located in Antrim Township, just outside the Borough of Greencastle, and is just east of Interstate 81 Exit 5.
Wawa shares a tract of land with Keystone Car Wash and Burger King. It is catty-corner across Pa. 16 from a Sheetz convenience store.
Work began on the property back in spring 2025, a few months after the company celebrated the opening of its first Franklin County store, on Wayne Avenue in Chambersburg.
Nearby, there are also two Wawa stores in the Hagerstown area, at 13610 Pennsylvania Ave. in Maugansville and 10335 Supercenter Drive, off the Sharpsburg Pike.
