York Water Company customers struggling to pay their bills are being offered a new program to help.

In a statement released Thursday, June 4, York Water Company, in partnership with United Way of York County, is offering a new bill discount program for income-qualified customers.

The program is administered by United Way of York County and offers eligible households a monthly discount on water bills, helping to reduce financial strain while maintaining essential access to clean water.

“Access to safe, clean water is a basic necessity,” JT Hand, President and CEO of The York Water Company, said in a statement. “This program is about supporting our customers who need it most and making sure cost is not a barrier to this essential service.”

Customers who meet income and account standing criteria may qualify. According to the York Water Company website, to be eligible for the program, you must:

Have a household income at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), as verified by United Way of York County using current federal standards.

  • Be an active residential water customer of The York Water Company.
  • Remain current on monthly bills or payment agreement terms.
  • Have a current account balance that is less than $1,000 at the time of enrollment

“This collaboration reflects what’s possible when organizations come together to support neighbors in need,” stated Brian Grimm, President of United Way of York County. “No one should have to choose between paying their water bill and meeting other basic needs. This program is about providing relief, dignity, and stability to families who need it most.”

Customers interested in applying can visit the United Way of York County website for more information. Enrollment is open year-round or until available funds are dispersed. Approved participants will begin receiving discounts within 30 days.

In addition to this new discount program, The York Water Company continues to offer a variety of assistance programs to customers, including payment agreements, the Customer Assistance Program (CAP), and York Water CARES.
