This is just the latest Taylor Swift conspiracy theory to gain traction among Donald Trump’s base.
A new poll published by Monmouth University shows that close to one in five Americans believe that Berks County native Taylor Swift is part of a national covert conspiracy to reelect President Joe Biden.
The poll found that 46% of the American public has heard about a right-wing conspiracy that states Swift is part of a “supposed covert effort to help Biden win the 2024 presidential election,” and that 18% of Americans believe in the conspiracy theory.
The poll also found a tremendous overlap between those who believe the Swift conspiracy theory and those who thought the 2020 election was fraudulent and stolen from former President Donald Trump.
Seventy-three percent of those who believe that Swift is an alleged deep-state asset also believe the conspiracy that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump. The poll also found that 71% of the Swift conspiracy believers support the Republican Party and 83% say they will support Trump in the upcoming presidential election.
It’s been a busy few months for Swift. The pop star was recently named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year and went on to win album of the year for Midnights at the 2024 Grammys. Her boyfriend Travis Kelce, the brother of Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, won his third Superbowl on Sunday.
Swift stayed out of politics until 2018, when she released a video criticizing US Sen. Marsha Blackbuck (R-TN) and endorsed her opponent, Phil Bredesen, who ultimately lost the race.
Last year, Swift was responsible for more than 35,000 people registering to vote after she posted a message on Instagram for National Voter Registration Day.
