Planned Parenthood Launches Ad Campaign On Carluccio’s Anti-Abortion Resume

The reproductive rights organization is launching a 7-figure ad campaign hitting Judge Carolyn Carluccio on her anti-abortion record. The ads feature The Keystone’s reporting and will air in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Markets.

Judge Carolyn Carluccio’s anti-abortion record may be the single biggest issue that will affect  Pennsylvania’s upcoming Supreme Court Race. Carluccio, the Republican nominee, is running against Superior Court Judge Judge Daniel McCaffery, the Democratic nominee.

Democrats currently hold a 4-2 majority on the court and the outcome of the race can impact the fate of reproductive rights years down the line. Three Democratic justices are up for a retention vote in 2025 and another seat will open in 2027 when Judge Christine Donohue turns 75 and is forced to resign due to a clause in the state’s constitution. 

The Keystone originally reported on the Montgomery County judge erasing her anti-abortion resume from her campaign website following the Republican primary, and that will be one of the main themes the ad focuses on. The resume in question stated that she would be a “Defender of 2nd Amendment Rights and All Life Under the Law.”

Planned Parenthood Votes, the national advocacy wing of the reproductive rights organization, launched a 7-figure ad campaign reminding voters about Carluccio’s resume and the support she has received from anti-abortion organizations.  

The new ad titled “Erased” will be their first to run across television, streaming platforms and digital channels focusing on voters in the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia markets. 

“Carolyn Carluccio may try to shade her views from the public eye, but she cannot pull one over on Pennsylvania voters. They know that the person elected to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will determine the future of abortion access in their state,” Planned Parenthood Votes campaign director Breanna Ross said in a statement.

The ad opens with a graphic of the six Republican justices on the US Supreme Court saying “These justices overturned Roe v. Wade, erasing our right to an abortion.” 

It then segues into Carlccuio’s anti-abortion views saying, “Now Pennsylvania Supreme Court candidate Carolyn Carluccio is a threat to our abortion rights.  She got caught covering up her anti-abortion views, wiping them from her website.”

The ad goes on to mention that Carluccio is backed by anti-abortion extremists, such as the PA Pro-Life Federation and the Pro-Life Coalition of Pennsylvania, that want to ban all abortions with no exceptions for rape or incest.

Signe Espinoza, the Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates Pennsylvania, told The Keystone last month that Carluccio cannot be trusted on reproductive rights. 

“I can’t stress enough that our supporters and Pennsylvania voters are not to be fooled and are very smart and know who they can trust. And that’s part of the work that we’re going to be doing leading to November, is making sure that folks know that this is a candidate that can’t be trusted,” Espinoza said. “This is the candidate who is not going to have our best interest on the highest court in our state and doesn’t deserve the place on the court.”
