Detroit Tigers rookie shortstop Kevin McGonigle won’t be the only Pennsylvania native taking the field at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia Tuesday for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game.
The Delaware County native will be joined by Alan Porter, a 1995 graduate of Hatboro-Horsham High School in Montgomery County, who will serve as home plate umpire and crew chief for the 96th edition of the Midsummer Classic.
Lancaster native and Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz (aka “Big Amish”) was named as a replacement for injured Toronto Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but will sit out the game after sustaining a thumb injury.
Porter worked the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati as the right field umpire. He has also worked three World Series (including the 2022 Phillies-Astros series), four League Championship Series, seven divisional series, and five wild card series.
After playing center field in baseball and excelling at football for Hatboro-Horsham, Porter played baseball at Montgomery County Community College. He was inducted into the MCCC Alumni Hall of Fame in 2013.
The Phillies will be represented by six players at the All-Star Game, including National League starting pitcher Christopher Sanchez. Outfielder Brandon Marsh and designated hitter Kyle Schwarber will start for the NL, joined by reserve first baseman Bryce Harper and pitchers Johan Duran and Jesus Luzardo.
The Pirates have two All-Star representatives: pitchers Braxton Ashcroft and Paul Skenes.
