Given that October is National Pizza Month, I wanted to share a story I did recently on Beaver County resident Jesse Wisinski. For over a year, he’s been serving up pizzas out of his home on Tuesday nights as a way to give back.
“I love making pizza and want to use it to bless people in our community,” he said.
In the process, Wisinski has raised more than $2,000 for Pie it Forward, a national hunger-relief campaign by New York-based Slice Out Hunger that provides free pizzas for people experiencing food insecurity. He’s provided meals for new moms, first responders, and families dealing with cancer. He’s also forged connections with neighbors he didn’t really know previously.
“I had a dream and wondered why I’d made pizza for every other neighbor except for this one,” Wisinski said. “I ended up texting them. I said, ‘I do this thing where I make pizza, I’d love to make your family pizza.’ The husband picked them up. His wife texted me and said, ‘That was an answer to prayers you didn’t even know I had.’”
Wisinski calls his philanthropic pizza operation The Best Pizza Shop. Through his website, people can nominate individuals in the community in need who could use a pizza. The pizzas are free and Wisinski doesn’t accept donations, though people requesting pies are encouraged to donate to Slice Out Hunger.
You can learn more about what inspired Wisinski to start making free pizza for those in need via this story.

Today marks the beginning of National Voter Education Week. As the name would imply, the nonpartisan initiative aims to educate voters, from equipping them with the information they need to make educated choices at the polls, to filling them in on the voting basics, including how to register to vote, knowing registration deadlines, finding their polling locations, and more.
We’re going to do our part with stories highlighting the candidates, the issues, and what you need to know about voting in Pennsylvania.
WHO’S ON THE BALLOT? Six years after President Trump’s allies tried to overturn Pennsylvania’s 2020 results, 10 election deniers are on the state’s November ballot. That includes Republican gubernatorial nominee, State Treasurer Stacy Garrity, who said at a 2022 rally, “We know that he won,” referring to the 2020 election. Learn more about the 10 candidates here.
WHAT’S AT STAKE? The next governor of Pennsylvania will have to address a housing shortage that has reached crisis levels. Find out how Garrity and incumbent Gov. Josh Shapiro each plan to tackle the state’s housing crisis in this story.
VOTING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN PA.? You’ll want to read this handy guide.

With less than one month until voters decide whether Josh Shapiro will remain in office or if Stacy Garrity will become Pennsylvania’s 49th governor, we’d like to know: If you could ask either of the gubernatorial candidates one question, what would it be?

Everything is more expensive these days—from gas to utilities to groceries even to keeping the kids entertained.
But you don’t have to spend much—or anything at all—to enjoy a day out with kids in the Lehigh Valley. Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, and the surrounding area are filled with interesting, free things to do with kids, from checking out the fish at Lil’-Le-Hi Trout Nursery and the bison at Trexler Nature Preserve to visiting museums and stellar playgrounds.
Our food and travel writer Kalena Thomhave has a rundown of 10 things to do with kids in the Lehigh Valley for free in this story.

This photo from Eileen Blakeslee of a gorgeous sunset at Presque Isle State Park in Erie serves as yet another reminder that I really need to get out there one of these days.
We want to see your Pennsylvania—whether it’s a gorgeous sunset, or something purely Pennsylvania, like a horse and buggy parked outside a Sheetz.
Send us your photos with your name, location, and a brief description of what you’re sharing.
